Surprised by the outmoded technology they were exposed to throughout their medical school education, a group of MD Ph.D. students with biomedical engineering experience at the Washington Universtiy School of Medicine was motivated to make an impact in healthcare. As they delved deeper into brainstorming new solutions for clinical problems, however, they found a systemic problem: engineering students do not have the clinical experience to discover problems in medicine, and clinicians do not have an outlet to solve the challenges they see in daily clinical life. To bring these disciplines together and generate solutions in healthcare, Sling Health was born. The movement that started in St. Louis soon found colleagues around the country equally motivated to pursue medical engineering, and by coming together, the Sling Health Network was founded and continues to this day. The following people were integral to the foundation of Sling Health and driving its mission.
